FAQ

Common Questions

Does this image compressor upload my files?
No. All compression happens in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your images never leave your device. The tool works entirely offline after the page loads.
What image formats are supported?
JPEG, PNG, and WebP are fully supported. GIF files can be loaded but will lose animation — only the first frame is kept. SVG and AVIF are not supported.
What quality setting should I use?
80% quality is a great default — it typically reduces file size by 60–80% with no visible quality loss for most photos. For web thumbnails, 65% works well. For screenshots or text-heavy images, use 90%+ or keep PNG format to avoid JPEG artifacts.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes. Upload as many images as you like. All images are compressed with the same settings. When you have 2 or more images, a Download All as ZIP button appears so you can grab everything in one archive.
Why is my PNG not getting much smaller?
PNG is a lossless format, so the quality slider has no lossy effect on PNG output. To significantly reduce PNG file size, use the Resize option, or switch the Output Format to JPEG or WebP which both support lossy compression.
Will images with transparency work in JPEG output?
Yes, but JPEG doesn't support transparency. When converting a PNG with a transparent background to JPEG, the transparent areas are filled with white. Switch to WebP or keep PNG if you need transparency.
